A few of us here know that the PTC was once a contest hosted some years ago, which favours above all things well-designed maps rather than a story/action-fledged scenario. Caught by popular demand, the PTC is running once more. It is in this contest that the most beautifully designed town, city or village will win!

» Objective
The objective of this contest is to design the most beautiful, outstandingly pretty town, city or village in the AoKH Scenario Editor, which must look as cold as possible in the theme set for this year, winter. This means that colder terrains will work best here. Keep in mind that winter isn’t all about snow, there's rain and mud too!If you are interested and considering entering, please be sure to read all of the rules below before committing your name in a reply. Submit all entries to Mashek at tanneur99 at heavengames dot com, with the initials 'PTC08' typed both in the email headline and submission title, and by September 10th at 11:59 PM EST. It must meet the requirements listed below to be eligible for judging. Otherwise, you will face disqualification.
In addition, please keep in mind that this contest strictly follows the guidelines of how the PTC was previously run and judged to keep with the tradition and intended nature of the contest.
» Rules
- No combat is allowed.
- No external files are allowed (exceptions to Immobile AI), for example modpacks, genied-edited files, bitmaps and sound files.
- Triggers should be limited to 100 only, and no cut-scenes are allowed.
- One entry per person or per team only.
- Your map should be size 4 medium or lower.
- You must supply exactly 1 fast unit that the judge can scout with. There must be a set path for the judge to follow, or even set up a tour guide to escort the judge around the map. This way the judge can see things without actually having to resort to the reveal map cheat.
- Story is encouraged to add further interest, however no 3,000 word epics please. Alternatively, you can have a short narrative, a journal from a traveler or a history of the land to get us, the tourist, into it all!
» Judging
All entries will be judged on how they look, however only what is seen will be judged. The categories are simple and are as follows:- Terrain – (Covers things like terrain mixing, how well the design looks, and the overall representation of the winter season)
- Buildings – (Covers the placement of buildings on the map and how it improves its overall look and feel)
- Elevation – (Covers the effectiveness of elevation and how it improves the map and its overall look and feel)
- Beauty – (Covers the overall map design, its structure and how beautiful the map looks)
Each category is marked out of 10, making a total possible of 40 points per entry per judge. With three Age of Kings Heaven staff doing the judging, there is an overall maximum of 120 points per entry, which will be the deciding line for places in 1st, 2nd and 3rd.
If you have any questions about this contest, feel free to ask in the official Scenario Design forum thread.
» Other
As all entries submitted to the judges will be uploaded to the Blacksmith as one .zip file after the judging is done, it is therefore strongly encouraged to submit separate entries to the Blacksmith containing respective sounds, bitmap, .DAT files etc. But remember, only after the judging is done!Be sure to keep an eye out for the new and upcoming "Contests" category, in which all previous and current contest entries will be placed!
